A fantastic lunch in Sambuca di Sicilia

Lunch is a the most important meal in Sicily, not dinner but lunch.  Today we were treated to a special place near the town where my great grandfather was from, Sambuca de Sicila.  Just outside of the town is Antico Mulino (The old mill).  Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, we ordered the Appetizer Rustico, what came was unbelievable.  This was an appetizer for 3.

This was just the appetizer
The Salumi

Capponatta, Fritatta, Fried Zuccini, calamari, potato croqette

Marinated mushrooms, marinated eggplant and sundried tomatoes

the best porketta, we at most of it before I could get the camera

 Fantastic fresh ricotta

Georgi, this ones' for me and you baby, Trippa! Great

and I didn't photograph a whole plate of local cheese

The primi was a giant dish of risotto with pumpkin, and sausage.  The dish could have served 8 easily, they brought if for 3

Finishing the meal with a desert that my Nona Lucy made many times.  Casseteddi, a pastry turnover filled with ricotta and chocolate.  Memories of my childhood. The photo doesn't do it justice, I think there was six on the plate and before I could get my camera out, 4 were gone.

The people super nice, super helpful.

When we first walked in the place there was a large group of working guys that looked like they had just finished.  At first they gave us the look like they knew that we were not from here, not threatening but we were obviously not part of the regular crowd.  We finished eating our lunch by 3:30 in the afternoon and these guys were still ordering food.  Some people here can really eat.

A fantastic lunch in Sambuca di Sicilia.
