The end of the 7 course prix fixe meal
We had tickets to see a matinee of the Glass Menagerie on Broadway on Sunday. We also had a dinner reservation at Torrisi's Italian Specialties in Little Italy at 6:00 PM. I think the Glass Menagerie confirmed my total inability to appreciate theater. It's just not my forte. The play was enjoyable enough but the story itself was just sad. The lead was just over the top with a southern accent, and the 2 other were under the top. It was enjoyable but far from the greatest experience of the trip. Never the less, we had dinner reservations for Torrisi Italian Specialties The problem was Little Italy is a ways away from the theater district. Up till now we had been taking the subway everywhere but because we were very pressed for time we thought we would take a cab. Getting the cab was the easy part. Initially getting out of the Theater district, I could have walked faster then as we finally got out of the the theater district we felt like we were in the chase scene from the French Connection. Additionally the San Genarro festival was going on the same day. This meant the cab driver could only get us close. Within 2 blocks. From there we had to make our way through the San Genarro Festival. We finally get to the restaurant 30 minutes late. That was our mistake. We get there and they were very nice but now they were trying to do a 7 course meal in 1 1/2 hrs. This is not possible. The menu was great.

It looks like more than seven, but it was seven course. Everything was fantastic but I just can't eat that much. Maybe it's because I'm old. Maybe it's because I've been on a low carb diet for the past year and my stomach has shrunk. Maybe it's just because I've lost my love of gluttony. Maybe it's just because that's too much food to eat in one sitting. After about the 4th course I was ready for the white flag. The final 3 courses were like being waterboarded with food. Please don't let me do this again. I understand that these high end restaurants are just trying to get their per dinner tab up above $100 but there's got to be a better way than this. It's just tooooooo much food.
