Day 2 and the 911 Memorial
After consuming part of our "best cookie you've ever eaten" for breakfast we wanted to head down to the 9/11 memorial. Getting there was not easy. It's not an easy site to get to. Once you get in the area you still have to walk about 1/2 mile to enter the site. I was heartend to see the populairty of this. Probably some of the biggest crowds that we have seen were for this site. I think this will long become one of New Yorks biggest attractions. A powerful symbol of the damage that can be done by 19 people with distorted religious beliefs and no respect for others or the rule of law. It is the thing that terrifies me about people who base their entire life on one very old book. They can convince themselves of anything, because they delude themselves into thinking that they are right and therefore allowed to do anything they want to anyone who doesn't believe the way they do.
A beautifully done memorial to the people who were murdered 12 years ago. I love the way the water cascades from the names of the murdered into what appears to be a bottomless void. A moving memorial.
