Our Manhattan Encampment
Got settled in our place in Manhattan very late on Friday night. Starving, hoping that Salumeria Rosi was still open but it was not to be. So much for the city that never sleeps. We had to settle for another NYC legend Grey's Papaya. Basically a hot dog vendor that also sells juices. It was late and we just wanted to eat and go to sleep so Grey's would have to do. Linda hated the dog but thought the juice was very good. I on the other hand thought the dog serviceable but the papaya juice was very sweet and had this undissolved powder in the bottom which made me question is't origin. I don't think this will be one of our fav spots, but it works in a pinch.
The place we are staying is very small but very comfortable. About the size of our family room and kitchen, but all the comforts of home, including fiber optic wifi. It's located on the upper west side, which is kind of the suburbs of Manhattan even though it's just a few blocks west of central park. It's interesting how quickly a place can feel like home. We are using the subway's all the time to get around. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy and cheap. We bought a 7 day pass which allows you unlimited ride. We are getting our money's worth. We are right near the 72nd St Metro stop. Now where ever we go somewhere, when we return you see the 72nd street station and it feels like home. We are home exchanging. We managed to do a non simultaneous exchange, when we went to Illinois to visit my family she sent her sister and brother to our place and now that we are in her place, she's in Bali. Can't believe we are here for 2 weeks. I don't think that we have ever vacationed where we have been in 1 place for so long. This really affords you the time not to feel rushed. Our normal MO on this type of vacation is to hit the ground running and start ticking off the to do list as quickly as possible. It feels like this time we are not in a hurry. Sleep as late as you can, we'll get there when we get there. What a luxury!
