Brooklyn and the Bridge

The gluttony tour continues   Today we started out at Barney Greengrass.  One of the classic Jewish deli's that's been in business for over 100 years. We though that we should have a classic New York bagel, especially since New Yorkers are pretty full of themselves about the quality of their bagels.  Again that word "the best" seems to come back again and again.  I like bagels but I'm not really a bagel aficionado but sorry, this was pretty much a bagel.  I didn't go weak in the knees, it was a bagel, good but nothing to pine over.  The bagels and Lox (technically Nova, the waitress said that the lox was pretty salty), was pretty good but far from "the best"

Now we headed off for our Brooklyn experience.  It was another beautiful day.  We brought all the San Diego with us.  First thing up, hiking the Brooklyn Bridge. I'm aware of all the history associated with the building of the bridge (is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States) so I was looking forward to is, along with the visit to Brooklyn.  Really a pretty easy hike.  The beginning and the end of the bridge were great.  Some spectacular views of downtown Manhattan, and walking under the towers was pretty amazing, however note to the people who are running this, they need to widen the walking platform.  The upper deck of the bridge is at least four car lanes wide however they have restricted the walking area to about 15 ft wide with 5 ft of that devoted to bike traffic. That only leaves about 10 ft for an enormous amount of foot traffic that were trying to make this historic walk.  After you got past the towers they had 10 ft high corrugated metal up on either sides of the walkway so you were unable to see anything.

We had reservations at "The Grocery" a highly regarded Brooklyn restaurant.  We had some time to kill before our dinner reservations so we decided to walk around Brooklyn.  Lot's of cool bars and restaurants in Brooklyn.  A fun walk.  We found a place to have a glass of wine and a beer and rest our tired feet.  We showed up at the restaurant in time for our reservations.  They usered us to the outdoor garden in the back of the restaurant.  Nice the sun just setting, and the temp was great.   Had a great meal here.  The food, service and ambiance were great.  "The Best" duck ever.  The rendered carmelized fatty skin is the the best part.  Really great.
