Brittany - Dinan
After our visit to Mount Saint Michele, we arrived at Dinan. This was to be a short stay in Britanny. Only 1 whole day, 2 nights. It was really our first day that we didn't really have a schedule. We were able to sleep as late as we wanted. We managed to sleep until 9:30 and nearly missed the hotel breakfast. We must have looked frighful at breakfast but it was great to sleep.
Dinan is a pretty town. Much of the old town dates back to the middle ages and was not heavly damaged in the war.
We got out of the hotel to explore the town and of course it was raining, but the weekly farmers market was going on despite the weather. Visiting small local farmers markets is one of my favorite things to do, so I drag Linda around an round this market. Incredible Fresh fish and shellfish, Small producers for sausage, lot's of goat cheese, and they had these white asparagas some of them as thick as your wrist, huge. We had to leave but not before I got this sausage gallette (I know I complaint about of glut of this stuff on our last trip to Germany). Basically a really good sausage that they wrapped in a savory buckwheat crepe. It was really good. Wish I bought a couple of them.
We had to get going to visit the town of St. Malo, which is right on the English Channel. St. Malo was mostly flattened by Eisenhower during the war, casualty sanction by Charles De Gaulle. Most of the town was rebuilt after the war but it still has much of it's Medieval defensive wall which use to sorround the town, intact. Makes a nice walk.
More later, must eat dinner now in Honfleur
