The Fat Lady Sings

September 25th - San Diego
All good things must come to an end.  I'm sitting here in San Diego with the aftermath of Jet lag.  It's my nemesis, 2:30 AM and I'm lying in bed ruminating.  Mentally constipated.  I need to get up and disgorge this and wrap it all up so I can try to get back to sleep.  What does it all mean.   In summary, another fantastic vacation.  More wonderful memories of Italy.  More ideas about how and what vehicles I can use to celebrate the fantastic gift of sharing a meal together with family and friends.  It's the process of dining together, of breaking bread together that I find so exciting and wonderful.  The craft of being able to prepare a meal to share is one of simple practice and understanding cooking principles.  This is what facilitates the whole process.  The process of cooking I find endlessly fascinating but it is simply a means to and end.  It's the communal dining that is the end.  Whether it is simply Linda and I, or 12 or more people over for dinner.  That's the main thing, to dine.  To share a meal with family and friends.  To converse over a glass of Vin Santo and plate of cantuccini with your friends and loved ones.  That's what it's all about.  The Italians have a saying and it goes something like this.  "Time spent at the table, does not count against your time here on earth."  I intend to get in as much of this free time as possible.  I hope to see all my family and friends at the table soon!

Arrivederci!
Ciao
Matt
