But it was such a cute baby goat
Septmber 13th - Lucca
My new favorite place in Lucca - Buca San Antonio
After the festa Luminaria we were pretty wet and hungry and had made reservations at a Buca San Antonio for 9:30. The place was packed. We arrived a little early and it took them about 15 minutes to seat us. It was a beautiful candle lit room with old giant copper pots hanging from the ceiling. I was hoping that none of the nails failed or these giant pots would completly flatten the diners below. This is a place that I would recommend for everyone (unlike some of my other recommendations that might not be for the unadventurous). Romantic atmosphere, great service, great food and not terribly expensive. I saw on the menu that they had a spit roasted Cappretto (baby goat). I've never had goat before so of course, I had to have it. We also ordered an antipasto of Fegato. Fegato is a real tradition here in Italy. You see it everywhere. It is a simple chicken liver pate served on bruschetta. This was fantastic. Most of the time Fegato can have a very livery or mineraly flavor that can be off putting for some diners. This was fabulous. Next the Cappretto. This was really fantastic served with an artichoke sfumato (custard) and oven roasted potatoes. It was really great with a great roasted meat flavor. Slightly different but not way out there. Definitly something to try if you ever have the chance. If you ever get to Lucca, Buca San Antonio is one not to be missed.
