The Best Tongue Ever
No this is not a report from the GOP debates. Get your mind out of the gutter. Last night we went to "La Chata" a traditional Mexican restaurant here in Guadalajara. We had the hotel make reservations for us for 8 PM but when we walked in there was only about 20 seats taken in the 120 seat restaurant. We felt a little silly telling them that we had a reservation but by the time we finished our meal, the place was nearly full. Back to the tongue. I was going to order the Millinesa which is like veal cutlet pounded, breaded and fried, but our host at the hotel shamed me out of it because he felt that it was too international. I decide on the tongue which I had had before in tacos back in San Diego and I like. Tastes like pot roast. The dish came and while it wasn't the most attractive one, covered in green salsa verde, but when you cut into this it was like the best short ribs you ever had, without the rib. Really delicious and the salsa verde was a little spicy. A great traditional Mexican meal. Linda had the chili Rellenos which was very good. The restaurant was fairly brightly lit which Linda hates, but it's exactly the way the Italians do it. As a bonus the restaurant had the ubiquitous flat screen TV's all around the perimiter of the room, broadcasting the American "Oh my balls" show, which is always disturbing, but the saving grace was a pianist playing wonderful music through the entire meal. A nice an unexpected touch.
